Golf Course Description
Bandon Dunes Resort (Bandon, OR) Located on the shore of Southern Oregon, this is the best golf facility in the United States - a true golfing heaven.
All four courses rank in the top 13 of public courses in the United States. The USGA has staged four amateur championship tournaments at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort: the 2006 Curtis Cup, Pacific Dunes, 2007, U.S. Mid-Amateur Golf Championship at Bandon Dunes, and the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links championship at Old Macdonald and Bandon Trails courses. In 2020, Bandon will welcome the United States Amateur Championship to the region.
Bandon Dunes was the first course opened, in 1999. Designed by Scotsman David McLay Kidd, the course is perched on a bluff high above the Pacific Ocean. Bandon Dunes unfolds along pristine native dunes, with expansive ocean views throughout. The course is completely natural and routed through an environment of indigenous vegetation. Beyond the breathtaking scenery lies the game of golf in its truest form.
Opened in 2005, Bandon Trails begins atop a massive sand dune, quickly opens into a sprawling meadow, works higher into the coastal forest, and finally returns to finish in the dunes. The course is enjoyable to walk and is a constant reminder of how the game was originally created among inland rolling dunes with dramatic ocean vistas. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw designed this masterful course.
Designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2001, Pacific Dunes is remarkably different in character and shotmaking requirements than the other Bandon courses. In a way, Pacific Dunes doesn't feel like it was built as much as it was discovered, just waiting to be played. Rippling fairways remain just as they were found, and natural bunkers line the landscape. The course emerges from shore pines to spectacular 60-foot sand dunes. When the wind blows, precise approach shots are a necessity. Pacific Dunes is short enough to give you hope, but rugged enough to test every facet of your game.
The fourth course at Bandon Dunes is Old Macdonald. Inspired by architect Charles Blair Macdonald's iconic work, course architects Tom Doak and Jim Urbina crafted a course that celebrates the classic concepts of design of vast greens, myriad angles of play, and deep, fierce bunkers.
